Introduction

With the direction of João Paulo Gross, "Natureza Morta" investigates issues of human essence, bringing Baroque thought and its richness of language to contemporaneity along with the history and work of Farnese de Andrade, Brazilian artist practically forgotten in recent decades, despite the his expressive work for the fine arts and to be consecutively awarded from 1962 to 1970. His work is not originally Baroque, even though Farnese did not belong, nor did he create a style, a school or movement. It's unique. But even because it originates from the "traditional Minas family", surrounded by conservatism, ceremony and religious dogmas, Farnese is a contemporary par excellence and baroque in its essence.

The show not only rescues this outstanding artist in the history of the Brazilian arts, but also dialogues with his work and his dense life trajectory. In this way, the fragmented memory that Farnese kept in boxes and oratories, represented in the form of pieces of dolls and saints, ex-votos and photos "of the people" of the Triângulo Mineiro, and comparing with ours, that of the individual of the 21st century.
